Providing legal resources to the public and BAR for over 100 years

California county law libraries are a separate entity from the county government. Funded by a small share of civil court filing fees. Kings County Law Library is a member of the Conference of California County Law Libraries

 


Library Rules

Library is available to all patrons needing legal material.
Library books are non-circulating. No book is to leave the library.
All briefcases, bags, and packages are subject to inspection by library staff.
Theft or mutilation of materials is punishable under CA Penal Code §490.5 & CA Education Code §19910.

No food or drinks in the library.
Cell phone use is strictly prohibited in the library.
Library staff will not give legal advice.

 


Library Services

Reference Assistance
Library Staff are available to assist and instruct you on use of legal materials.

The Librarian cannot give legal advice or interpret legal material.

Public Computer - use of the computer is limited to legal research

Photocopy Machine
A Self-help Coin Operated Copier is available for 20 ¢ a page.
Computer printouts - 25 ¢ per page.
Inter-Library loans
Library staff may borrow or retrieve photocopied material from another law library.

Hours & Location 

Due to staffing limitations, the Law Library will be closed when the Law Librarian/Small Claims Advisor is out of the office, so it is advisable to call ahead to make an appointment, or to make sure the Law Library is open.

The Small Claims Advisor is a service provided separate from the Law Library.
