The Records Division operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is staffed by a records manager, 2 supervising clerks and 5 records clerks.

The Records Division is responsible for maintaining various types of records related to Sheriff's Office business to include records of calls for service, incident reports, criminal investigations, traffic citations, sex and arson registration records, custody records, impounded and stored vehicles, as well as other types of information. The Records Division is also the warrant repository for the county and is responsible for processing and verifying all arrest warrants issued by the courts. Records also provides assistance to our Patrol and Detectives Divisions, outside agencies, and members of the public.

Other tasks performed include the release of towed, stored and impounded vehicles, law enforcement background checks, police clearance and immigration letters, and preparing monthly reports to be submitted to the CA Department of Justice and FBI regarding Kings County Sheriff's Office crime stats.

PUBLIC SERVICES

• Requests for Law Enforcement Reports: Reports can be requested in-person or via email or phone number listed above. Information is released according to applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations governing the distribution of law enforcement records. Fees may apply.
• Public Records Act Requests: Requests are handled pursuant to California state law, Government Code section 7923.600. Fees may apply.
• Police Clearance/Immigration Letters:  Valid government issued photo I.D. is required. A $6.00 fee is payable at the time of the request.
• Vehicle Release: Current registration and proof of insurance are required. Vehicles are only released to the registered owner or authorized representative. A $125.00 fee- payable via CASH only- is due at the time of release.
