Kings County Sheriff deputy badge. The Kings County Sheriff's Office prides itself on remembering those who have gone before us and those who, on daily basis, continue to serve the citizens of Kings County.

We have created several awards and memorials that recognize the sacrifice and dedication devoted by the men and women of our department.

To honor our law enforcement officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice, Kings County Law Enforcement has erected a Kings County Peace Officers Memorial.

The memorial immortalizes those deputies and officers who have died in the line of duty. The memorial is located at the Kings County Government Complex, in the courthouse square.

The Memorial has a heartfelt inscription that we believe expresses our feelings for those who gave their lives to protect us.

I never dreamed it would be, 
my name for all eternity 
recorded here at this hallowed place, 
alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the line of Duty" I hear them say, 
my family now the price will pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears, 
we only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest, 
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind, 
and they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me, 
and with a heavy heart and bended knee, 
I ask for here and all the past, 
dear God, let my name be the last.

The last Deputy listed was one of the darkest days for the Kings County Sheriff's Office. Deputy Allen Sharra was killed in a traffic accident while enroute to assist another Deputy.

Deputy Sharra had only been with the department less than a year.
