Manages, plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the activities of fire department personnel on a designated shift in the operations division; engages in all aspects of fire suppression, prevention and protection; enforces state and County fire laws, codes and ordinances; assists with delivering; enforces all department rules, regulations, procedures and policies; maintains effective discipline; inspects and directs the maintenance of fire stations, grounds and equipment; receives, investigates and takes appropriate action on complaints from the public; prepares reports, including performance evaluations and other departmental actions; plans, prepares and presents training programs, and ensures that fire personnel and volunteers are adequately trained and knowledgeable in fire suppression operations, procedures and tactics; responds to all fires within the assigned battalion and, when required, throughout the County; when necessary, operates fire apparatus and equipment and engages in other fire suppression activities; investigates fires for cause and origin; prepares and justifies annual budget estimates for assigned battalion and/ or program; monitors and controls budget expenditures; meets the public and interacts with various officials and citizens regarding fire prevention, fire hazard reduction and related fire department functions; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
