Adoption Services
The Kings County Human Services Agency provides adoption services to children who are dependents of the Kings County Juvenile Court, who are not able to reunify with their birth parents and need a "forever family". All approved Resource Families in Kings County require a permanency assessment to be approved as a caregiver. The permanency assessment qualifies the individual to become an adoptive parent. If a parent is unable to reunify with their child, the Adoption Unit will work to match the child with an adoptive family and proceed to finalize the adoption with that family.
Adoption Assistance Program (AAP)
Recognizing that adoptive parents often experience financial difficulty meeting the special needs of children who formerly were placed in California's foster care system, the State Legislature created the Adoption Assistance Program. The Adoptions Unit sets up and monitors the AAP for adoptive parents who require monetary assistance.
