Geographic Information System
- A GIS (Geographic Information System) is a series of layers containing information about a place to give you a better understanding of that place. How you use GIS depends on what your objective is. It can be used to find a location for a new buildling, analyze property characteristics, detect patterns in environmental behavior, and so on. The information contained on this site is believed to be accurate but accuracy is not guaranteed. Mapping information is a representation of various data sources and is not a substitute for information that would result from an accurate land survey. The files below have all been "zipped" to conserve disk space and download time. They range in size from 15 KB and up. The files are ESRI shape files and the projected coordinate system is NAD 1983 State Plane California IV FIPS 0404 Feet.
