FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME

If your business requires a Fictitious Business Name (FBN) you can file with the Clerk Recorder’s Office one of two ways: by mail or coming in to our office. If you choose to send the application by mail you will need to download the form and send it, along with payment, and an Affidavit of Identity. If applying in person the application must be filled out ONLINE and no affidavit of identity is necessary. If you do not have access to a computer privately there are computers available to you in our office. Once the online application has been submitted an owner/member/officer must come in to the office to sign and pay to complete the process.

Current fees, payable by cash, check or money order:

First Business Name and One Owner - $35

Each additional Business Name or Owner - $8

OPERATING A BUSINESS IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREA OF KINGS COUNTY

If you intend to operate a business which is located in the unincorporated areas of Kings County you will probably need a Zoning or Home Occupation Permit which can be obtained from the Community Development Agency. For information you may contact them at 559-852-2670.

TAX ID NUMBERS

The County does not issue Tax ID numbers. Please contact the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 or online at https://www.irs.gov for assistance.

BUSINESS LICENSES

The County does not issue Business Licenses. If you are operating your business within a city you may also need, in addition to a FBN, a Business License. You must contact the city in which the business will be located to determine their requirements.
