 Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council

Purpose and Objectives

  1. The function of the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council is to provide services to Kings County that will improve the detection, investigation, and treatment of Child Abuse Programs.
  2. To review and critique reported cases in order to improve the standards and systems procedures.
  3. To seek out and develop after care and treatment programs.
  4. To monitor the ongoing programs.
  5. To provide educational information to those agencies that have a legal responsibility to report, process, and treat child abuse cases.
  6. To disseminate information to the general public concerning the child abuse programs.


Membership Composition

The Council shall be comprised of the following thirteen (13) members, representing interests of the community from:

• County Functions
o Probation
o Licensing
o Welfare or Public Social Services

• Criminal Justice System
o Law Enforcement
o Coroner
o District Attorney’s Office
o The Courts

• Prevention and Treatment Services
o Public and Private Schools
o Health Services
o Community-Based Organizations
o Mental Health Services

• Community Interests
o Community Volunteers
o Religious Community
