Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the Committee is an advisory agency to the Kings County Board of Supervisors on matters involving agriculture. The primary focus of the committee will be the sustainability and economic prosperity of agricultural production in Kings County. The Committee may perform functions such as, but not limited to:
• Study problems of general or special interest assigned by the Board
• Undertake special studies as needed or requested relating to preservation of agricultural land and protection of soil resource
• Review important proposed State Legislation affecting agriculture, and other matters of general concern or interest to agriculture
Membership Composition
The Committee consists of Regular Members, Ex-Officio Members and Auxiliary Members. The Regular membership consists of nine (9) individuals appointed by the Kings County Board of Supervisors from the following categories:
• Dairy
• Livestock and Poultry
• Cotton/Row Crops
• Water
• Fruit Crops
• Feed, Grain and Seed
• Nut Crops
• Field Crops
• Small Farms
• Kings County Farm Bureau (preferably an Immediate Past President or Officer)
• Agricultural Processing Operations
• Agricultural Equipment
• Agricultural Chemicals & Petroleum
Ex-Officio Members are as follows:
• The Kings County Agricultural Commissioner
• The Kings County Planning Director
• U.S.D.A. Farm Services Agency Director
The Board of Supervisors may appoint Auxiliary Members from the following categories:
• Cooperative Extension Director
• Economic Development Corporation
• U.S.D.A. Natural Resource Conservation Service
• Citizen’s Advisory Group of Industries
• California Employment Development Department
• Kings County Rural Crimes Task Force

Meetings of the Committee are held quarterly on the second Thursday in January, April, July and October at 4:00 PM at the Kings County Government Center in Hanford unless unusual or special circumstances warrant a meeting elsewhere in the County.
