Protecting Voter Privacy

Information on your voter registration affidavit will be used by Elections Officials to send you official information on the voting process, such as the location of Vote Centers and the issues and candidates that will appear on the ballot. Commercial use of voter registration information is prohibited by law—it is a misdemeanor. Voter information may be provided to a candidate for office, a ballot measure committee or other persons for election, scholarly, journalistic, political or governmental purposes as determined by the Secretary of State. Your driver license number, Social Security number and signature as shown on your voter registration card cannot be released for these purposes. If you have any questions about the use of voter information or wish to report suspected misuse of such information, please call the Secretary of State’s Voter Protection and Assistance Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE.

Certain voters facing life-threatening situations may qualify for confidential voter status. For more information, please contact the Secretary of State’s Safe at Home program or visit the Secretary of State’s website.

Register to Vote

You may register at any time, but to be eligible to vote in an upcoming election, your Voter Registration Form must be submitted online by midnight no later than 15 days before that election. If you are mailing a Voter Registration Form, it must be postmarked no later than 15 days before that election and received by the County of Kings Elections Department by the close of the polls on Election Day.   • Serving a misdemeanor sentence (a misdemeanor never affects your right to vote)
  • Because jail time is a condition of probation (misdemeanor or felony)

• On parole
• On mandatory supervision
• On post-release community supervision
• On federal supervised release A person with a juvenile wardship adjudication

Pre-register to Vote

Online pre-registration is now available for 16 and 17 year olds by visiting registertovote.ca.gov.  California youth who pre-register to vote will have their registration become active once they turn 18 years old.

Conditional Voter Registration

Missed the deadline to Register to Vote? You can still vote under Conditional Voter Registration (CVR).

First-Time Voters

If you registered by mail, you may have to show identification when you vote for the first time.

If you did not provide one of the required types of identification at the time you registered, and you are voting in a federal election (there are presidential or congressional candidates on the ballot), you may be asked to show additional identification.

Safe at Home

Safe at Home is California's address confidentiality program administered by the California Secretary of State's office. The program, which provides a free post office box and mail forwarding service, is designed to help victims and survivors of domestic violence, stalking or sexual assault to start new lives in peace and to provide added protections to their overall safety plans.

Canceling your Voter Registration

If you've moved out of the County of Kings, please cancel your voter registration. Just fill out the Authorization to Cancel Voter Registration Form, date and sign it.
