Candidate Information Night
Join us for a information night open to all members of the public. We will be discussing the process of running for office. We will also be available to answer questions you may have.

07/15/2024 to 08/09/2024 |
Candidate Filing Period. To be a candidate for office, your filing requirements must be completed by August 9, 2024. |

07/30/2024 |
Change of Candidate Designation on the Ballot. Any nominated candidate from the March 5 Primary Election may request in writing a different ballot designation be used. The request must be filed with the Elections Office no later than this date. For Federal and State offices, the request should be made to both the Secretary of State and the County. |

08/10/2024 to 08/14/2024 |
Nomination Extension Period. If the incumbent of an office for a Health Care, Special District, or Water District fails to file, the deadline is extended to August 14, 2024. Note that the incumbent is not eligible to file during this period. If no incumbent is eligible to be elected, the extension does not apply. |

08/10/2024 to 08/19/2024 |
Public Examination Period - Candidate statements, names, and ballot designation. During this period, candidate statements, candidate names, and ballot designations are open to public examination. Any person may challenge the aforementioned candidate information by filing a writ of mandate no later than August 19, 2024. If a nomination period is extended for an office, the examination period for that office will be adjusted to begin August 15, 2024. |

08/15/2024 |
Random Alphabet Draw. The Secretary of State shall hold a public drawing to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot by randomly drawing each letter of the alphabet. Additionally, a random alphabet drawing will occur in office that will be applied to the candidates of CA Assembly District 33 only. |

09/06/2024 to 09/21/2024 |
UOCAVA Ballots Mailed. U.S. citizens who are active members of the Uniformed Services, the Merchant Marine, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, their eligible family members, and U.S. citizens residing outside the United States must have their voting materials mailed or transmitted to them no later than 45 days before Election Day. The deadline for counties to mail or transmit is August 21,2024. |

09/09/2024 to 10/22/2024 |
Statement of Candidacy - Write-In Candidate. A person who wishes to be an official write-in candidate for office must submit a statement of write-in candidacy during this period. A person's name who is written in on an official ballot will not be counted unless that person has filed a statement. |

09/26/2024 to 10/15/2024 |
Voter Information Guides mailed. A State Voter Information guide will be mailed to the household of every properly registered voter. County Voter Information guides will be mailed to every properly registered voter. They will also be posted online. |

10/07/2024 |
Vote-by-Mail ballots are mailed to all active, registered voters. Ballot Drop Boxes open. 11 Official Ballot Drop Boxes will be available throughout King County for use. Ballots are collected per California Code of Regulations. Processing Of Vote-by-Mail ballots begins. As ballots are returned to the office, signature verification and ballot tabulation will be occurring. These processes are open to public observation. Ballot Replacement. Voters can request replacement ballots be mailed to them. The deadline to request a new ballot be mailed to you is October 29, 2024. This is to allow ample time for a ballot to be mailed to you and back to us. Ballots may also be replaced in person through Election Day. The voter may designate an authorized representative to pick up their ballot. |

Close of Registration. This is the last day a person can register to vote and receive ballot materials at their home. |

10/22/2024 to 11/05/2024 |
Conditional Voter Registration Period. If you were not registered to vote by 10/21/2024, you can register and vote at the Elections Office or Vote Center (when operational) beginning on the 14th day before an election and ending at the close of polls on the Election Day. |

Certified list or Write-in candidates is released. The list of officially certified write-in candidates who are eligible to receive votes will be released. This list will be available at all Vote Center Locations and online at our website. |

10/26/2024 |
Central Count Location is published. On or before this date, the central count location will be posted online, on our door, and in local newspapers. 10-Day Vote Centers Open. 2 Vote Centers will be open in Kings County from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, including holidays, for your voting needs. Locations will be listed online and in your Voter Information Guides. |

All Vote Centers Open. All 7 Vote Centers in Kings County will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, including holidays, for your voting needs. Locations will be listed online and in your Voter Information Guides. |

11/05/2024 - Election Day |
All Vote Centers Open. All 7 Vote Centers in Kings County will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by Court Order. Ballot Drop Boxes close. All 11 Official Ballot Drop Boxes will be locked at 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by Court Order. Last Day to Mail your ballot. Ballots must have a date stamp on or before election day and received by our office no later than the close of business on 11/12/2024 for them to be counted. Semi-Official Canvass. The semi-official canvass of the vote will begin after polls close at 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by Court Order. The initial results of ballots counted will be posted at 8:05 with updates to follow every 2 hours until all in-person ballots have been counted. Please note that these are not final results. |

11/07/2024 to 12/05/2024 |
Official Canvass of the Vote. The official canvass of the vote begins and will be worked on at minimum 6 hours daily until completed, excluding weekends and holidays. Activities of the official canvass include: processing of outstanding Vote-by-Mail ballots, processing of Conditional and Provisional ballots received at the Vote Centers, the 1% manual tally audit, and other activities. Certification of the Election. The Registrar of Voters is to certify the results of the election, creating an official record of the votes casted and winners on the races. |
