This Safe Routes to School Project includes the construction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, roadway reconstruction, and one in pavement lighted crosswalk in front of Kettleman City Elementary School. The improvements will be constructed on General Petroleum Ave. from SR 41 to 5th Ave., Standard Oil Ave. from 7th St. to 9th St., and 7th, 8th, and 9th St.’s from General Petroleum Ave. to Standard Oil Ave. The construction will begin in late October of 2016.
The Federal grant funds were awarded in October of 2011 and State grant funds in July of 2012. The County has been dillegently pursuing the completion of this project first by hiring a consultant to prepare the plans and specifications and currently advertising this project for construction. Please come out and join District 2 Supervisor Richard Valle along with representatives of Kings County, Reef-Sunset School District, Kettleman City Community Services District, and Civil Engineering consultant Mark Thomas & Company staff to celebrate this wonderful community achievement.
